The lineup for the 12th annual McDowell Mountain Music Festival has just been officially announced. Based in Phoenix, Arizona the three day event runs from March 27th to the 29th at Margaret T. Hance Park. It is Arizona’s only 100% non-profit music festival and has brought in some high profile acts from around the country.
Headlining the event will be popular jam band rockers Widespread Panic, synth pop band Passion Pit and experimental electronic outfit Thievery Corporation. Other notable artists on the bill include Phantogram, Portugal. The Man, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Beats Antique, STRFKR, Robert Delong and more. The diverse lineup is sure to bring the crowds and it gives an important outlook on the festival scene for 2015.
Widespread Panic is immensely popular and are known for their epic live shows that transcend their rock into almost an art form. While they have already announced a tour of the US, expect more headlining dates at festivals that cater towards jam based bands. The big exclamation mark on the bill is Passion Pit, who have kept it pretty low-key all year. Energetic and upbeat along with a headlining slot at MMMF, this could very well be an indicator for more tour dates in the near future. Thievery Corporation is a popular choice for electronic or dance festivals and could use MMMF as a launch point for their next big tour in 2015.
The rest of the lineup is a mix of electronic, folk and indie rock with a little bit of local flavor added to keep things interesting. While it is not easy to guess which bands will be touring around the country by next year you can be rest assured that more then half the bands on this particular lineup will pop up at various events. MMMF is a small, yet fantastic indicator on the future festival lineups for 2015 and will be a good time regardless.
