In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize gay marriage there has been a huge amount of media that highlights the pros and cons. Not only that but this controversial ruling has caused people from around the world to relay their opinions whether for it or not.
Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan had this to say in support of the ruling on a Facebook post. This just further proves that he is one hell of a musician and perhaps even more importantly he is one hell of a human being. Check out the full post below.
Where to begin? Maybe I’m missing some insider info. Maybe the religious zealots are in fact as omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent as their one true God. Maybe they have a working knowledge or understanding of his plan. And therefore our celebration of this glorious day will be met with eternal damnation, fire and brimstone, blah blah blah.
Or maybe circumstances have changed. Just like when it was supposedly necessary to write a Bible V2 aka The New Testament. Maybe we are in fact coming closer to a Revelation, a Rapture, or a Home Coming of sorts. Maybe there is a divine plan that no one could possibly comprehend. And the religious zealots are in fact NOT omniscient, omnipotent or omnipresent. Maybe this one God of pure light of which they speak put forth a test. And the test was to recognize pure LOVE. I’ll say it again in case you were speed reading. Maybe the entry level test was to recognize pure LOVE aka LIGHT, Infinite and without Judgement. And they all fucking blew it. (PLEASE PLEASE follow through with your threats to set yourselves on fire. Soooo many problems solved.)
Or maybe I’m wrong and we’ll all be smoking turds in hell.

All of the Muslims I have met have been wonderfully compassionate and respectful of me and my beliefs, unlike an overwhelming preponderance of Christians I have met.
Some Christians bully, torment, and brainwash kids into self loathing, self harm, and even suicide over the course of years. Much more humane than what Muslims do, huh?
Pardon me if I don’t thank Christians for not throwing me off a building. I’m busy trying to recover from PTSD from the torture they inflicted on me in reparative therapy, thanks.

To Mr. Keenan, I say:
Here’s where to begin, since you asked:
First of all, please don’t mistake me for one of your imaginary zealots that considers himself as omnipotent, omnipresent or omniscient, for these are qualities owing only to a true god (the “One True”, or any other). One cannot assume a physical state and assume to be a god, nor would a true god choose to limit him/herself with physical boundaries. Nonetheless, most religious people are not zealots, per se, and even fewer profess to Know and Understand His plan; after all, that would negate the need for faith. Most are also not inclined to judge others, though they are inclined to pray for them … a harmless gesture even for the most ardent atheist.
Most religious people do, in fact, believe their god did indeed put forth a test of sorts, though I doubt many would agree that it involves the recognition of “pure love” in the sense that you define. The recognition they’ve been challenged to make is more of a distinction between Truth and deception; between right and wrong; between religion and faith; between love and hate. Not one person whom I personally know to be truly Christian – or as close to Christ-like that they can manage to achieve – preaches or even suggests that those who celebrate this “glorious day” will be met with “fire and brimstone,” they suggest instead that the sanctity of their marriage has been somehow tarnished.
Now, is this true or is it just their perception? For me personally, I think it’s simply their perception; after all, we’re talking about the “sanctity” of a government contract … what an oxymoron. If people think the sanctity of their personal marriage has been affected one way or the other, then they must consider their marriage to be nothing more than the contract with the state. If they perceive some sort of threat to their spousal relationship, then they need to examine with great honesty that relationship. They would also do well to understand that the Court’s ruling simply expands the list of who’s eligible to enter the LEGALLY binding marriage contract (which has nothing to do with the religious aspects of marriage).
I personally believe the greatest travesty in this whole debacle is the “in your face” disrespect with which the LGBT community is celebrating their “glorious” day, and in how that community is targeting the Christian-owned businesses that simply wish to live up to their convictions; whether you agree with them or not. There are tons of “LGBT-friendly” businesses in the wedding industry that have no compunction about serving the needs of that community. If you’re really pressuring the businesses because they disagree with you, or because they have religious objections, then why are you not targeting the Muslim-owned or Jewish-owned businesses as well?
Bottom line is this: if you want the respect of the hetero and/or Christian community, you must first afford them the respect that one free man gives another. As for the sanctity of marriage, I think we will see a strong shift toward “Covenant Marriage” arrangements within the Christian community, and a move away from the state-sanctioned contractual marriage. On this only time will tell.
In the meantime, enjoy the life you choose to live; however, do so with the maturity and understanding that those you encounter along the way have every right to enjoy the lives that they have chosen as well. That, my friend, is the foremost principle upon which America was founded: “The Right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” … not just yours but everybody’s.

I wonder why Christian and/or Hetero community feels like they own the corner on marriage. Like so many other things from other rites and rituals, Christianity borrowed/adopted the practice as their own.

Both “versions” of the Bible clearly state that God does not change. Circumstances, all around the world, are always changing but He does not. The New testament is about Jesus, the Old builds up to and prophecies His coming. They were written many many many years apart, yet they go seamlessly together.

You know what- anyone in the world has the right to choose what is right for them. I’m not going to say that queers can’t marry each other, but I also don’t have to condone it or say that I agree with it. I don’t. Personally, I think it’s fucking unnatural and as far as biology is concerned, it’s pointless, as well. As far as I know the only good that comes of rubbing two sticks together is making a fire in the woods.
