Keith Richards criticises Led Zeppelin and The Who

Keith Richards, who earlier this year dismissed The Beatles’ Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band as “rubbish”, was quizzed on more bands and admitted that he is not a fan of many of his peers.

“I love Jimmy Page, but as a band, no, with John Bonham thundering down the highway in an uncontrolled 18-wheeler,” Richards told Rolling Stone about Led Zeppelin. “He had cornered the market there. Jimmy is a brilliant player. But I always felt there was something a little hollow about it, you know?”

The Who, vocalist Roger Daltrey is “all flash” according to Richards while drummer Keith Moon was a “disaster” when it came to playing with others. “Moon could play to Pete like nobody else in the world. But if somebody threw him into a session with somebody else, it was a disaster,” Richards said. “There’s nothing wrong with that; sometimes you’ve got that one paintbrush, and you rock it.” Richards ended by saying: “I just was never really interested in that many English rock‘n’roll bands actually, at all.”

    • Play Ya Ya’s & then play the (sound check) Live at Leeds – no comparison. & tell me that The Who could play the killer version of Midnight Rambler anywhere near the way Mick Taylor & Keef rip it up!
